Giles is a Chartered Accountant (1982) and Licensed Insolvency Practitioner (1989). He is also a member of the Academy of Experts.  He trained with Thomson McLintock & Co in London and then moved to KPMG in Plymouth where he became a partner in 1991. Seeing the benefit of a niche practice dedicated to insolvency and expert witnessing he joined Richard Smith in 1994.

He is Vice President of R3, a member of R3’s Council and until March 2011 was the accounting member of the Lord Chancellors Insolvency Rules Committee.  He is also a co-author of ‘Individual Voluntary Arrangements’ published by Jordans and lectures on insolvency topics.

He is married to Ruth and has two children. In his spare time he is Churchwarden, sings (tenor), watches cricket and gardens.

Hamish Adam

Hamish is a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner. He has over twenty years of insolvency experience and was formerly a Senior Manager with the Corporate Recovery and Insolvency Services practice of Ernst & Young in Exeter. He has both Certificate of Proficiency in Insolvency and JIEB qualifications and experience in all sectors and types of corporate and non-corporate formal insolvency work.

Hamish has lived in the West Country since 1985 and is a family man. He lives in Exeter with his wife Helen and teenage children. Outside work his interests include hill walking, playing cricket, watching Exeter Chiefs and playing golf.

Ken Cole

After obtaining a degree in Accounting, Ken spent 12 months travelling around Australia before joining the Corporate Tax department of KPMG in Southampton. However, Ken decided to return to the West Country and joined Richard J Smith & Co in 1999 as an Insolvency Administrator. 

Since joining, Ken has gained experience in liquidations and Company Voluntary Arrangements and all aspects of personal insolvency. In 2002 he obtained the Certificate of Proficiency in Insolvency qualification and in 2007 qualified as a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner. Ken is a Manager in the insolvency department.

Ken lives with his wife and two young sons in Ivybridge and his interests include following the fortunes of Plymouth Argyle and reading non-fiction.  Ken also helps out with the local Ivybridge Juniors football team and is a important member of the Richard J Smith & Co 5-a-side team.

Sue Proudfoot

After working in the Inland Revenue in Scotland for several years, Sue relocated to Plymouth in 1984 and spent 9 years with Coopers & Lybrand before joining Richard J Smith & Co in 1993. 

Sue has experience in members and creditors voluntary liquidations and all aspects of personal insolvency. She is an assistant manager in the insolvency department.

Sue lives with her husband and 3 children in the Ivybridge area and her outside interests include reading, gardening and involvement with local community groups.

Sam Bailey

Sam joined Richard J Smith & Co in 2008 shortly after qualifying as a Chartered Accountant.

Sam has experience of all formal personal and corporate insolvency processes, including trading Administrations and trading Voluntary Arrangements.

Sam is a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner, having passed the November 2012 Joint Insolvency Examination Board exams.  Sam's non-appointment taking licence is issued by ICAEW.

Sam is married with a young son and plays golf and football when the former allows it.

Having worked for H M Revenue & Customs within the Voluntary Arrangement section, upon their relocation in 2001 she joined Richard J Smith & Co as an Insolvency Administrator. She has a BA (Hons) degree in Business Administration and has also achieved her Certificate of Proficiency in Insolvency qualification. She has extensive experience in both personal and corporate casework.

Karen is married with three children and her interests are football (watching not playing!), cooking and wine tasting.

Rebecca Cox

After working for The Insolvency Service, Becky developed an interest in insolvency and joined Richard J Smith & Co as an Insolvency Administrator in 2007. Since joining she has dealt with both personal and corporate cases.

Becky has an LLB Law degree from Reading University and last year passed her Certificate of Proficiency in Insolvency exam. She is currently studying AAT level 2 and is keen to progress both with these and with further insolvency qualifications.

Becky is a black belt in Shotokan Karate and has competed both at national and international levels. She also enjoys travelling, music and following football.

Rob Cowsill

Rob graduated from Stirling University in 2010 having completed a BA (Hons) in Economics and Politics, followed by an MSc in Finance.

Rob joined Richard J Smith & Co as an Insolvency Administrator in October 2010 having worked with the firm for many years on a part time basis. He is looking to study for formal accountancy and insolvency qualifications in the future.

Rob is a keen follower of Manchester United, but perhaps less well-known is his passion for vinyl records and sport related memorabilia. Rob’s other interests include golf, hill walking and travelling. He also plays in the Richard J Smith & Co 5-a-side football team.
